RURAL groups and businesses are being invited to apply for a share of a pot of cash for grass roots projects.

The money is available to groups in the Winchester and East Hampshire districts. And £1.5m has already been given to 116 projects.

The Fieldfare Local Action Group is responsible for distributing the funding on behalf of Defra and the EU. The cash comes from the Rural Development Programme for England, and is aimed at helping rural businesses, especially farming, forestry, food-related businesses, and in communities.

David Webb, chairman of the group, said: ‘As a new group we have worked hard to ensure that our local rural communities have been able to access this funding stream.

‘We have limited funding left to allocate and want to ensure that it makes a real difference.’
