Thousands signed a petition calling for Lidl to come to Portchester last year and work on the site started earlier this year.

It was originally supposed to open to residents in December, but fast progress on the building of the site has led to a earlier opening date.

Fareham Borough Council agreed the plans to demolish the former Homewood Interiors store and construct the new building at a meeting last July.

The discount supermarket had further plans to extend the store approved in January.

That will see a mezzanine floor for staff, a manager’s office, three warehouses and a larger delivery bay built.
