Marks and Spencer reveal date for Fareham store closure

MARKS and Spencer have confirmed the '˜necessary' decision to close the company's store in Fareham.

In January its proposed closure was announced for April – but a final date has now been set of April 21.

The news comes one day after M&S said its Commercial Road store in Portsmouth would close on March 20, and will be replaced with a new foodhall store at Ocean Retail Park on March 21.

A spokeswoman for the retail giant said: ‘Proposing to close the Fareham store was a difficult but necessary decision.

‘Over the past few weeks we’ve been consulting with our colleagues, and following this rigorous process, the decision has been made to close the store on April 21.

‘We’d like to thank our customers for the feedback they’ve given our team over the last few weeks.

‘We hope to see lots of them continuing to shop at our other stores in the area as well as on M&S.com.’

A total of 58 people currently work at the Fareham store.

The closure is part of M&S’s programme to modernise its business ‘to better meet the changing needs of customers’.

The majority of staff at the Commercial Road store are moving to the new Ocean Retail Park foodhall.
