PORTSMOUTH-based firm ASV has been enlisted into a Thales-BAE consortium to develop and deliver the first complete operational unmanned mine countermeasures system.

Managing director Dan Hook said the goal was to develop a low risk and
reliable mine countermeasure vehicle.

ASV has already developed a multi-role unmanned surface vessel called Halcyon.

The first stage of the programme will be a design study, followed by a construction phase.
