Mobile technology on trains

INNOVATIVE technology developed by a Fareham firm is being used to boost the performance of trains via mobile devices.

Barnbrook Systems is using its BlueCube remote condition monitoring sensors to gauge coolant temperatures in engines in real time.

The live data is tracked on an ‘iSenseMobile’ app, which can be viewed via tablet, laptop or desktop. The app can show exactly how any train’s engine is performing based on the entry and exit temperatures of coolant into its system.

Satellite maps and GPS mean the location of each train can be pinpointed on its journey – showing performance and punctuality.

Barnbrook chief technology officer Andrew Barnett said: ‘This technology is now revolutionising railways.

‘It places the power to diagnose performance and punctuality problems directly in the hands of the engineer.’
