More placements opendoors to construction

One of the UK's largest independent construction companies is encouraging young people to consider working in the industry by creating more work experience placements and apprenticeships.

The southern division of Midas Construction, based in Southampton, has focused on creating additional work experience placements for young people to support this aim – and many have led on to permanent job positions with the company.

Josh Burns, who studying for a qualification in construction and the built environment at Highbury College, said: ‘I’ve really enjoyed the placement, everyone has been very welcoming. I know I want to work in construction now, and I hope an opportunity with Midas will come up.

Fellow Highbury College construction student Anjay Chauhan, 19, is also doing work experience there.
