A SURVEY of more than 2,000 employees has revealed that companies are failing to offer the staff perk that really makes a difference.

The study, conducted by insurance firm Hiscox, said that free beer and performance-based bonuses are least likely to satisfy SME employees.

The most common perk offered to staff is the company sick pay additional to statutory sick pay, with 58 per cent of firms offering it as standard.

More than two in five offer staff paid overtime.

The benefit keeping staff most satisfied is a ‘Golden Hello. The perk is more commonly known as a bonus on acceptance of a job offer.

Nine in 10 participants rated this as the best perk, despite only 10 per cent of SME workers receiving in the last five years.

The research stated that the majority of perks leave staff ‘under whelmed’.
