GOSPORT MP Caroline Dinenage has called on the government to support the UK’s marine industry.
In the House of Commons, Mrs Dinenage asked the minister of state for business, innovation and skills what his department was doing to support the country’s marine industry.
The minister, Mark Prisk, said the government was committed to supporting the industry, which generates £10bn in sales every year.
Ms Dinenage added: ‘It is crucial we support this important local industry, which in the last year alone provided jobs for over 120,000 people across the UK.
‘I have recently met the British Marine Federation and invited them to visit me in Gosport, to advise how we can attract more marine-based business to the area.
‘I am delighted to support plans that build on our maritime heritage and promise to bring thousands of jobs to the area.’
