Haldi, in Albert Road, Southsea, invited Mrs Drummond to do the honours at the recent launch party.

She was then able to sample the Bangladeshi and Indian cuisine.

The family-run restaurant is named after the Bangladeshi word for turmeric, a key ingredient for the cuisine.

The owners, Shamsul and Afia Khan, invested thousands of pounds to completely refurbish the restaurant, formerly the Aubergine, and improve the menu.

‘It was a real honour to officially launch the restaurant and sample the great food,’ said Mrs Drummond.

‘I wish Haldi the very best and a big thank you to the owners for inviting me to their party.’
