MP says money is in short supply to revamp Waterlooville town centre

A TOWN'S MP has admitted transforming the high street in the short term will be difficult amid hard economic times.

Meon Valley MP George Hollingbery spoke out as an action plan has been drawn up by himself, traders and council leaders regarding the future of Waterlooville.

Havant Borough Council is looking to fund a new masterplan to help rejuvenate the town centre.

Mr Hollingbery said: ‘It’s quite clear to everyone that there is a problem with Waterlooville precinct not attracting passing trade and having little invested in it for quite a few years.

‘To try and get something done have I brought stakeholders together from interested local organisations and the council to look at what can be achieved and there have been two public meetings.

‘In the long run, the council has some exciting plans to help, but the short term is a challenge for traders who are struggling and that challenge will centre on finding money and money for councils is in short supply at the moment.’
