MP scores victory for women work returnees

The announcement was influenced by the All-Party Parliamentary Woman and Work Group, in which Flick is co-chair, and its Women Returnees Annual Report. It examined the issues women face returning to employment and how government and business can help.

Theresa May said returnship schemes would be extended to industries where women were under-represented and it would help women who have found the route to employment closed off after taking time out to care for children or relatives.

The money will allow women, or men, who have taken career breaks the opportunity to seek training to rebuild their skills.

‘This money is very welcome but, more importantly, it shows a step change in how government views this problem and I thank the Prime Minister for making this announcement,’ said Flick. ‘It’s a start and, importantly, it’s showing leadership in a crucial area. Companies must now take up the baton and do more to make it easier to return to work.’
