Mutiny Festival gets off to a pumping start

Revellers in their thousands packed out playing fields in Cosham as the Mutiny Festival gets off to a flying start.

The event is being held today and tomorrow on the King George V Playing Fields.

Luckily rain held off and the sun came out to make the first day a success.

Organiser Luke Betts said: ‘It’s a really nice and friendly event.’

The i newsletter cut through the noise

More than 6,000 people came through the gates by 3pm on Saturday and about 15,000 are expected tonight.

The star-studded set list will see Steve Angello, Sub Focus and Sister Bliss top the bill.

Tomorrow will see CeeLo Green, Example and Mistajam play.

People have come from all over to enjoy the festival, which has been sponsored by Ridgeway BMW.

Scarlet Martin, 18, and Willow Tarrant, 22, had come from Ringwood.

Scarlet said: ‘It is amazing, It’s a really good festival. I’m really excited to see CeeLo Green and Example.’

Josie Ciutacu, from the Isle of Wight, was there with 12 of her friends to celebrate her hen do.

The 30-year-old is marrying Darren Hendry on June 17.

She said: ‘It is great. I absolutely love it.’

Paige Henaghan, 23, had come from Sittingbourne in Kent along with her friend Cassie Edwards, 28, from Rainham, Kent.

Cassie said: ‘I went to uni here and know some of the people here. We are staying overnight at Gunwharf.

‘The festival is great, it’s been brilliant so far.’

Thousands of people are expected at Mutiny Festival over the weekend

DJ Dan Smith, from Cosham, was one of the first to play in the VIP bar.

He said: ‘These kind of events should be held every week.’

The event will employ about 200 people over the two days, and has brought a welcome boost to the local economy by using local businesses such as Flip Out from North Harbour, Waterworn from Bitterne, Melted from Hilsea, and Green Mango Natural Salon in Portsea.
