A NEWLY-refurbished advice centre has opened in Portsmouth.

The service is provided by Fareham-based charity the You Trust, which has won a contract with Portsmouth City Council to continue providing free advice.

Formerly known as the Community Legal Advice Centre and the Portsmouth Advice Service, the new-look centre will be branded Advice Portsmouth and is open on the corner of Kingston Crescent and London Road in North End.

‘We’re proud that we can continue to offer good quality advice that supports the people of Portsmouth to solve their problems,’ said Jane Henderson, solicitor and manager.

‘We’ve spent the past nine months closely listening to our customers to find out what people need and how best to provide it.’

The service will continue to provide advice on a range of issues including housing, welfare benefits, debt and employment.

Over the past three years, the service offered advice to more than 27,000 people and recovered almost £750,000 in welfare benefits.

Trust chief executive Nicola Youern said: ‘You has been offering legal advice in the city for over 20 years and we’re proud to be able to continue to provide a very customer-focused service.

‘Although we know that everyone is tightening their belts, it’s essential that we’re able to continue offering reliable, excellent advice.’
