MICHAEL Hastilow has been elected as the new chairman of The Southern Co-operative.

Mr Hastilow previously held the position of vice-chairman.

He replaces David Blowe who completed his term as a director at the annual general meeting in June, having served on the board for 23 years and as chairman for eight years.

He will be joined by two newly-elected vice-chairmen, Tom Blair and Neil Blanchard, both of whom are experienced directors.

Mr Hastilow was elected to the board in April 2005 and sits on the firm’s remuneration and appointments committee and is a trustee
of the society’s pension scheme.

He said: ‘I am honoured to have been elected to this position, and will endeavour, along with my fellow directors, to ensure that The Southern Co-operative continues to develop.’
