A NEW multi-million pound superstore opened its doors to the public for the first time this morning.
The £10m Morrisons store, in Victory Retail Park, Landport, was officially launched at 9am when Lord Mayor of Portsmouth Councillor Cheryl Buggy cut a ribbon at the entrance. She was joined by company officials and representatives from the store’s chosen charity Save the Children. Last week a team of 280 staff were working around the clock to make the finishes on the store, which includes a butcher, fishmonger, patisserie and an in-store cafe.
Chris Waring, the store’s general manager, said: ‘Sales have been better than expected. Everyone has commented on how impressive the store looks.’
