THE marine industry in Gosport is set for a boost.

The Gosport Marine Skills Centre – a partnership between St Vincent College and the Mabway Academy, based at Gosport Business centre – has now been launched.

The first course offered by the new centre is recruiting students for September, and an open afternoon will be held on July 6 from 2pm at the engineering facility at St Vincent.

The Level 1 Marine Engineering course gives students the opportunity to learn core skills for the marine industry.

Colin Farmery, assistant principal, said: ‘Both Mabway and St Vincent are keen to ensure that marine businesses in Gosport are involved in the development of the other courses we plan to deliver and I would be delighted to hear from any employers who would like to be involved.’
