Nurses pick up awards for their contribution

TWO nurses have been given prestigious awards to recognise their outstanding contributions to their profession.

Denise Wills, from Whiteley, was named Learning Representative of the Year and Janice Gabriel, from Alton, was awarded an RCN Fellowship at the Royal College of Nursing’s annual congress in Glasgow on Saturday.

The annual awards present fellowships, honorary fellowships and awards of merit to those who have given an outstanding contribution to nursing, along with honours for the learning representative, safety representative and steward of the year.

Denise, who works at University Hospital Southampton, said: ‘I am delighted and humbled to get this award.

‘I am passionate about education and the chances it gives to all staff members.

‘I have been particularly passionate this year with revalidation and encouraging all nurses to look at it with an open mind as the process is not as daunting as they think.’

Janice has worked as a nurse and manager at NHS England (Wessex) for 40 years.
