HARVESTING has started at one of Hampshire’s largest orchards and pickers are projecting a huge harvest of 1,500 tonnes of apples.

Until recently, apple pickers at Hill Farm, in Droxford Road, Swanmore, were blessed with warm and sunny weather. The apple harvest at Hill Farm started on Monday and will last until the first week of November.

Managing director Will Dobson went along to inspect the fruit.

Hill Farm Orchards is a top fruit grower in the Meon Valley and its fruit can be found in many of the UK’s retailers and markets.

The orchard supplies hand-picked fruit to Hill Farm Juice, where each type of apple is juiced and bottled separately to allow the distinctive flavours to be retained – apart from Cox and Bramley which they blend together for the right balance of rounded sweetness and sharp tartness.
