THE PENSIONS Regulator (TPR) is carrying out checks throughout the south to ensure businesses are complying with pension duties.
In Hampshire, spot checks will be conducted in Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham, Winchester and more.
More than 200 businesses will be looked at by inspection teams as part of a nationwide enforcement campaign which began in London in April.
The checks will ensure employers are meeting their automatic enrolment duties.
TPR will identify which employers aren’t complying and to understand whether they need to help those who might be facing any unnecessary challenges.
Darren Ryder, director of automatic enrolment, said: ‘Employers may have one eye on Christmas but it’s important they don’t take their other eye off the ball when it comes to their employees’ pensions.
‘Automatic enrolment is not an option, it’s the law. If employers are not complying with the law, we will use our powers to make them comply – which could mean the unwanted Christmas present of a fine or even prosecution.’
