Person dies after being hit by train as Portsmouth to London Waterloo commuters face delaysÂ

A person has died after being hit by a train on the South Western Railway line.Â

The incident happened at Mortlake station and is causing delays to and from London Waterloo this afternoon. 

British Transport Police have confirmed that the person died. 

In a statement they said: '˜Shortly after 10am today, officers were called to Mortlake station, after reports of a person being struck by a train.

'˜Officers are currently on scene alongside paramedics, however a person has sadly been pronounced dead. Work is now being made to identify the person and inform their family. 

'˜This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.' 

National Rail are warning commuters travelling on the line between London Waterloo and Portsmouth they face delays today (November 1). 

A statement reads: '˜Emergency services have dealt with the incident between Clapham Junction and Twickenham, allowing all lines to reopen.

'˜Trains to and from London Waterloo may continue to be delayed by up to 30 minutes, cancelled or revised whilst the service returns to normal.

'˜Trains between Wimbledon and Surbiton may also be delayed by up to 20 minutes due to a fault with the signalling system.

'˜We anticipate disruption will continue until 18:00.' 

South Western Railway have said: '˜Earlier today, a person was struck by a train between Clapham Junction and Feltham.  

'˜Whilst we get trains back to normal we may need to make short-notice changes to trains in order to manage delays.

'˜We may need to cancel your train or change where your train stops. 

'˜To assist you with your journey your ticket will be accepted, at no extra cost to yourself, on the following services:  - TfL Bus services between Feltham and Clapham Junction.  - London Underground services via any reasonable route.  - GWR services between London Paddington and Reading/Windsor and Eton Central.  '˜For further information or onward travel advice please speak to a member of staff, visit or use a station help point.
