PLANS have been launched to build a new supermarket in Petersfield.

JB Corrie, a family-run fence company in the town for 66 years, wants to move from its site at Frenchmans Road so that a supermarket can be built.

But the £12m sell and move deal will only go ahead if a new site with planning permission can be found for JB Corrie, which moved to Frenchmans Road in 1946.

The supermarket would be built above a 200-space car park in the plans, drawn up by developer Morbaine.

Morrisons is understood to be interested in the site, although no deal has been signed.

Company development executive David Childs said: ‘A chain hasn’t signed up for Petersfield, but we are talking to supermarkets every day.’
