RESTAURANT firm Pizza Express is set to open at Port Solent.

The national chain has taken over the former Caffe Uno site on a 25-year lease.

No official date has yet been given for it to be up and running, but it’s hoped to be open by the beginning of March.

In a separate piece of good news for Port Solent, American 60s venture Dean’s Diner will convert two empty units into one on a 25-year lease.

Port Solent’s restaurant property director, Jason Grant, said: ‘There is a real buzz about the Port Solent which has become a real leisure destination over the course of last year.

‘Some operators within the scheme have told me their restaurants in Port Solent are now achieving better turnover figures than those at Gunwharf Quays.’

It comes as Port Solent recently struck deals with La Cuisine and local media company Sticky Design to move into the complex.

Tim Clark, head of retail at commercial estate agents, Hughes Ellard, who helped broker the deal, said: ‘We are now approaching full occupancy with only two restaurant/ bar opportunities, both with fantastic external terraces, and two retail opportunities remaining.’
