FORMAL plans have been submitted for the revamp of a rugby club.

Proposals to convert part of the clubhouse of Havant Rugby Club into a children’s day nursery have been handed over to Havant Borough Council.

If approved, it would bring an end to the club’s squash courts.

But club officials say the nursery use would bring a solid income to Havant RFC that will help to pay for other improvements. The club has also applied for a 4G artificial surface at their Hooks Lane ground.

The refurbishments, set to take place over several years, could cost £1.5m in total.

The club also has a vision of opening a community gym in the old army building next to the clubhouse.

President Nigel Campkin has said he wants to make the venue ‘the best on the south coast’. The council will make a final decision on the plans.
