Plans submitted for 230 homes at Portsmouth Kingson Prison site

PLANS have been submitted for 230 flats and a cafe on the site of Kingston Prison.

City & Country, which owns the estate off Milton Road, Portsmouth, has submitted the proposals to the council.

It comes after the firm met thousands of local residents, as well as councillors and community organisations who provided feedback on potential uses for the prison, which was sold by the Ministry of Justice early last year.

Fears have already been raised about the number of homes earmarked for the site and the impact that would have on the already-strained road network.

But Richard Winsborough, City & Country associate director, said: ‘Submitting our application to Portsmouth City Council is an exciting step for the future of this fascinating site. The heritage buildings and new build will deliver 230 new homes alongside a café and gardens, creating a vibrant and welcoming development.’

Public sessions will be held at a later date for people to look over the proposals. Details will be released soon.
