THE recent takeover of Portsmouth Football Club by Convers Sports Initiatives plc was handled by Field Fisher Waterhouse LLP.

Convers Sports bought the Fratton Park club from Hong Kong businessman Balu Chainrai, his brother Deepak and Levi Kushnir.

The London-based firm, run by Vladimir Antoniv, Roman Dubov and Chris Akers, manage the commercial development of a growing portfolio of sports teams, franchises and rights.

Corporate partner Christine Phillips led a team comprising members of the firm’s cross-practice sports team.

Walker Morris advised the seller.

Christine said: ‘We are pleased that our cross-practice sports team was able to assist Convers Sports with this strategically important transaction which should enable Portsmouth Football Club to put in place plans for the future.’

Working as part of cross-practice teams, Field Fisher Waterhouse’s 31-partner Corporate group has also advised Convers Sports on its acquisition of North One Sport as well as its investment in Powerplay Golf Holdings.
