Pompey pubs we have lost but won't forget

As the King Street Tavern becomes the latest to close its doors we’ve been gathering readers’ memories of favourite boozers from the past.

They were prompted by Ricky Hunter who sent us a picture of the old Railway pub in Cosham saying: ‘It was the best boozer in Pompey.’

We asked which pub you remembered fondly - and scores of you responded. Here’s a selection of your memories.

The Railway

Sarah Betteridge Day says: ‘I had a friend called Jane who lived their with her parents - must of been around 1987. We met at college CETA, I can’t remember her surname, perhaps someone may know her…’

Rick Dickyboy Kirk says: ‘I’m good friends with the bloke that owned this. Sadly it was bulldozed just like the other place he owned - Colonial Bar, Horndean. Too many pubs disappearing!’

Scott Birnie says: ‘This is where I drank my quickest 4 pints in my life with Pete and you there in the first half of football.’
