As well as bumper sales and bargains, Boxing Day will see Cascades Shopping Centre in Commercial Road, Portsmouth open the doors to its pop-up cinema.

Due to popular demand, the free cinema will be returning to the centre for another six weeks from Boxing Day until Sunday, February 5. Films will be showing at 11am and 2pm every Saturday and Sunday with a whole host of family favourites lined up to entertain shoppers.

Autism-friendly screenings will also be returning with all films at 11am on Sunday morning having reduced capacity, a lower than usual volume, a chill-out area and lights left on a low setting so that those with autism or sensory sensitivity can still enjoy the magic of movies with their family in a cinema setting.

Cascades centre director, Rhoda Joseph, said she was delighted to welcome the return of the pop-up cinema, which was first held earlier this year.

She said: ‘We can’t wait to once again open the doors to the pop-up cinema on Boxing Day. It proved extremely popular in August and Boxing Day felt like a perfect time for it to return.

‘Watching a film with the family is a great way to relax after the hectic Christmas period.

‘I’m thrilled that we’ll also be bringing back the autism-friendly screenings on a Sunday morning.

‘The response from parents with autistic children and those with sensory sensitivity was overwhelming as for a number of families it was the first time that they were able to experience a trip to the cinema.’

A range of family favourite films are lined up for the cinema including Frozen, The Jungle Book, Zootropolis, The Lego Movie and Inside Out.

To mark the return of the cinema and to celebrate Frozen being the first film shown, Cascades will be running an online competition to win a cuddly Olaf toy donated by The Disney Store.
