A PORTSMOUTH professional has been named the most proficient practitioner of quality management.

John Feltham, quality manager at Portsmouth International Port, was named Quality Professional of the Year at the 2017 CQI International Quality Awards last week.

His win follows the implementation of new ISO 9001:2015 standards at the port, more than 20 months ahead of deadline.

Mr Feltham was shortlisted alongside three other finalists but was announced as the outright winner at the ceremony, held in London on November 22.

He said: ‘It is great that our determination to be one of the first with ISO 9001:2015 has been recognised on a global level.

‘To be named Quality Professional of the Year against such strong competition is quite breathtaking.’

The international quality standard ISO 9001:2015 is provided to companies that consistently provide products and services that meet customer needs as well as the applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.

Port director Mike Sellers said: ‘John really deserves this award and the high level of industry recognition that comes with it.

‘His hard work benefits everyone at the port.’
