PORTSMOUTH has seen an average eight per cent increase in house prices over the past year.

New research by the Halifax building society shows that the city had the fifth largest annual increase nationally, with the average cost of a house rising from £139,200 to £150,901.

But on average house prices fell by four per cent across the country in 2010, going from £179,356 to £172,400.
