Portsmouth car park is given award for facilities

A PORTSMOUTH car park has been given a coveted award thanks to its range of facilities.

NCP’s Market Way base is among 50 of the parking provider’s sites across the country to be given the People’s Parking accreditation.

It was praised for providing 20 parking bays for disabled people and introducing cashless parking so customers can pay online or using a mobile phone.

The People’s Parking scheme was started last year by disability rights campaigner Helen Dolphin, with the aim of driving up standards in the car parking industry.

To qualify for accreditation car parks must be clean and safely lit, have safe pedestrian access, and enforce designated bays.

The award also highlights specific facilities such as for people driving electric vehicles, or parents with children.

NCP managing director Duncan Bowins said: ‘As the UK’s number one car park provider, NCP is committed to continuously improving our customers’ experience.’
