SHOPPERS will be able to enjoy free parking as part of Small Business Saturday.

On December 2, a number of streets in Portsmouth will have no charges to encourage people to shop on the high street.

The aim for Small Business Saturday is to promote independent businesses.

There will be free parking all day at car parks in Wootton Street, Cosham; London Road, Cosham; Stubbington Avenue, North End; Ashby Place, Southsea and Clarence Street in the city centre.

Councillor Donna Jones, leader of the Portsmouth City Council, said: ‘There are more than 6,000 small businesses in the city and we want them to do well. That’s why we’re making this move on Small Business Saturday.

‘It’s an event that reminds us that shopping local and using local firms are key to the prosperity of our city.’

Business wanting to take part can go to smallbusinesssaturdayuk.com for a free promotional pack and ideas.
