A cheque for £1,200, a proportion of all the money raised by participants in last year’s Lakeside lake race, has been given to The Haven.

It’s a charity with a base in Titchfield which supports people diagnosed with breast cancer.

The cheque presentation was held at Lakeside ahead of the 2016 festival on Sunday, May 15, which is organised by the Rotary clubs of Southsea Castle and Portsmouth and Southsea.

Carol Jenkinson, of the Rotary Club of Southsea Castle, said: ‘We are delighted with the amount that’s been raised. That’s what the dragon boat festival is all about; raising money for charity.’

Haven community fundraiser Heidi Rehman said: ‘We are very grateful.

‘It costs us just over £1,000 to support one person and their family, so this money will put one person through the programme. It makes such a difference, not just to that visitor, but to their family.’
