A CITY glassmaker has said she was ‘shocked’ by the level of interest in her open studio event.

As reported in The News, designer Elisa Mott put her wildlife collection of homewares and jewellery on display last week at her Drayton home.

After the event, Elisa said: ‘I had lots of people come to the open studio event, mainly people who live in the local area.

‘It ran over several days and I must have had nearly 100 people come to visit.

‘I was demonstrating glass making, mainly making glass beads for jewellery.

‘If you demonstrate something, it makes it easier for people to understand. People were amazed by it. It was all adults who came to visit and they were fascinated because they had no idea how these beads were made.

‘I am still a bit overwhelmed by everything.

‘I sold lots of things over the week. There were only two people who came who didn’t buy something.

‘I sold lots of statement rings, they were really popular. I also sold a dish, and quite a few bottle openers. I also had some commissions for different types of jewellery. People were asking if I would make them all kinds of things.

‘The most different thing I have been commissioned to do is a paperweight.’

Elisa said she will be opening her home again for more studio events.
