PETER Jennison is hoping he will be crowned coffee king in a national competition.

The 20-year-old works for the Gunwharf Quays branch of Costa Coffee, and has entered its Barista of the Year 2011 contest. The west region final takes place tomorrow in London.

And if successful, he will go through to the grand final in October, which is also being held in London.

Peter said: ‘I’m very passionate about coffee-making, so I’m really pleased to have come this far.

‘I’m ready for the competition and looking forward to showing off my skills a little.’

The barista, who has worked with Costa for almost four years, won the south central heats of the competition last month after impressing judges with his coffee-making skill and passion.

He displayed his skills in making cappuccinos, lattes and espressos.

As part of the competition, Peter will also have to prepare his own speciality drink. The winner of the contest will win a 10-day trip for two, with spending money to a country of their choice, which has a Costa Coffee connection.
