PORTSMOUTH is set to host an international table tennis match between England and Netherlands.

The men’s match will take place at the Mountbatten Centre on Tuesday from 7pm.

England’s number one, Paul Drinkhall will team up with fellow Olympian Liam Pitchford and National Doubles Champion Daniel Reed.

It comes just weeks after the centre hosted the World Seniors Snooker Championships.

Cllr Lee Hunt, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport said: ‘I am delighted that Portsmouth has been chosen to host this international match. Portsmouth is hosting more and more world class events and we are determined to hold more of these in this city. It encourages local residents to get involved and develop the sports and wellbeing in the city.’

Diccon Gray, national competitions and events manager at English Table Tennis Association, said: ‘Portsmouth City Council has a strong track record of supporting table tennis at all levels.’

‘ETTA is bringing international table tennis to Portsmouth because of the partnership efforts to promote and develop the sport locally from the local league and clubs, Premier League 4 sport, schools and the city council.

‘The city council is particularly proactive and responds positively and swiftly.’
