Portsmouth shopping centre raises over £300 for children's charities
A SHOPPING centre has raised over £300 for children’s charities, including Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Cascades in Portsmouth was one of 200 centres across the UK taking part in UK wide series of events being held throughout June to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity and other children’s health charities.
The One Great Day event, on Saturday June 15 raised £314.39 for Great Ormond Street Hospital as well as Wave 105’s Cash for Kids charity, who support children aged up to 18, who are disabled or need a helping hand.
On the day, three static bikes were set up at Cascades and the centre management team and local community were challenged to ride 83.8 miles – the distance between Cascades Shopping Centre and Great Ormond Street Hospital based in London.
Andrew Philip, centre manager at Cascades, rode the full distance and completed it in four-and-a-half hours, while several members of the local community and staff also got involved.
Speaking about the day, he said: ‘One Great Day is a fantastic event that allows our community to come together whilst helping children that really need support. The day was a lot of fun and was also very well received.
‘We’re proud to have raised so much money and be able to support the wonderful work of Wave FM’s 105 Cash for Kids and Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity which supports patients and families from across the UK.’
Michal Noe, Trustee of One Great Day, said: ‘We are thrilled to have Cascades as one of 200 shopping centres that took part this year, helping so many children’s health charities across the country.’
Established in 2014, One Great Day has so far raised over £500,000 for 113 different children’s charities along with Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity.
