Portsmouth's Dane is ready to take the plunge for a charity close to his heartÂ

Dane, of Clarence Parade in Southsea, will bravely be throwing himself from an aeroplane next month for NewstrAid.

He has worked for Menzies, a newspaper wholesalers in Portsmouth, as operation support for 10 years.

When seeking volunteers to take part in the parachute for NewstrAid Dane jumped at the opportunity to try something new for a good cause.

The 26-year old, who said he is '˜excited and nervous', said he has never done anything quite like this before. He said: '˜I'm used to getting on a plane and not getting off until it lands safely.'

NewstrAid supports the people involved in the process of getting the news from print to the public when they are in need of welfare.

There are different branches of the charity across the nation, with the Wessex branch being one of the most active.

The charity's branches organise a number of events and fundraisers throughout the year including curry nights or sponsored walks.

There are also individuals who raise money on behalf of the charity such as Dane.

He has said some of his family members are shocked that he has decided to take on this task for charity.

His colleagues are just as curious about his decision to jump. He said: '˜Everyone is quite surprised and confused, asking '˜Why would you want to do that?''

Jacqui Broadbridge, from NewstrAid said: '˜I would like to thank him in advance for this very kind gesture and look forward to seeing him jump'.

The charity also supports the families of those who are or were in the distribution or sales of newspapers industry.

NewstrAid was first set up in 1839 to help support the street newspaper sellers in Britain.

Dane will be parachuting in Wiltshire on Sunday, October 14.
