ALMOST 3,000 households and businesses were hit by a power cut this morning.

Portchester residents reported a loss of electricity at around 10.30am on Thursday.

Southern Electric has said 2,870 customers were affected and the majority of customers were back on within an hour. At the moment there are around 890 customers still affected in the area.

Engineers are still on site carrying out investigations.

A spokesman for the company said: ‘We would like to apologise to the customers that have been affected and thank them for their patience while we restore power.’

Power cuts were also reported in Fareham on Wednesday afternoon with 1,600 customers cut off for more than four hours.
