WORKERS at Astrium and BAE Systems in Broad Oak have been sitting in the dark this morning after a power cut.

All the telephones systems were down in both companies, and employees were expecting an update as to how long the power would be out at 12.30pm.

It is understood that if the power is not restored soon, employees at Astrium could be given an early start to the Easter weekend.

A spokeswoman for Southern Electric said: ‘It’s just Astrium that’s affected, we’ve had no reports from anywhere else.

‘We have no idea at the moment what the cause is, and the power went off just after 11am.

‘Our engineers are still carrying out their initial investigations.’

Southern Electric say anyone else in the area effected should call 08000 727282.
