POWER has been restored to 1,600 properties after they suffered a blackout following a power cut earlier today.

It happened in Fareham just after 3pm and Southern Electric engineers had fixed the problem by 7.15pm.

The power cut affected areas around Newgate Lane Industrial Estate, Davis Way and Fielder Drive, in Fareham.

All but 18 properties had power by around 5.30pm.

A spokesman for Southern Electric said: ‘As soon as the power went off engineers were on site to get it back on.

‘Engineers re-route supplies when there is an interruption, putting them on to different parts of the network, and that’s what they’ve been doing.’

The firm had hoped to re-connect all properties by 6pm.

The cause of the power cut has not yet been established.
