Pub garden will host a theatre production
A TRADITIONAL village pub will host a theatre group for a several nights of performances in its garden.
The West Meon Theatre is putting on a production of Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard at the The Thomas Lord in West Meon.
The production – the third joint venture between the pub and theatre group – will run from Wednesday, June 29 until July 6. This latest collaboration follows the success of WMT’s productions The Dark Earth and The Light Sky.
Theatre-goers will be able to enjoy a pre-theatre supper from 5.30pm in the Thomas Lord before the performance begins under the canvas of an ornate Indian-style tent at 8pm.
Diners can choose two or three courses from £18, which features seasonal favourites and dishes created by The Thomas Lord kitchen team who source many ingredients from the pub’s garden.
Francis Heale, general manager, said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome West Meon Theatre to The Thomas Lord, having had the privilege of hosting a number of its outstanding productions over the past eight years.
‘The performances are an occasion not to be missed, and we are expecting to see more than 700 people enjoy the play and our bespoke menu over the course of the seven performances.’
Set in the early 1900s, The Cherry Orchard tells the story of Madame Ranevskaya – a widowed landowner – who returns home insolvent after five years abroad to find the world is not the way it once was.
