Relief road opens near Bognor to cut down on journey times

The Felpham Relief Road, near Bognor, will open and is expected to cut journey times for commuters.

The road, funded and built by Barratt Homes, connects the A29 at Shripney to the A259 at Felpham.

It is the second half of the Bognor Regis Northern Relief Road project – the first was the North Bersted Relief Road which opened in December 2014.

The scheme is costing £28m.

Councillor Louise Goldsmith, leader of West Sussex County Council, said: ‘I am so pleased to see the completion of this road and welcome the investment and commitment by Barratt Homes in making this happen.

‘It will be a major improvement for the residents and businesses of Bognor Regis and beyond.

‘This road will be a real boost to businesses by providing faster and more reliable journey times.’

It is estimated 40 per cent of drivers who use the road network around Bognor will take the relief road instead.
