Residents to have say on development plan

Havant Borough Council has set up an online questionnaire and a series of design workshops to give people a chance to contribute to its master planning process.

As reported, the authority needs to accommodate 11,250 homes by 2036.

Councillor David Guest, cabinet lead for economy, planning and development said: ‘It is vitally important that local residents contribute their opinions towards the future development of this key area of the borough, and the range of infrastructure that will support it.’

The borough has a continuing need for new infrastructure.

Following research, the area between Warblington, Denvilles and Emsworth was identified as providing an option to build a new road junction from the A27 alongside a minimum of 1,650 homes.

To achieve this – and as part of its proposed Local Plan 2036 strategy – the council is now developing a masterplan for the land.

The authority says it will aim to set out the possible development of the land to the best possible standard, and not in a haphazard way through ad hoc development.

The masterplan will establish key design elements, such as the amount and location of green spaces, the overall number of homes, the basic road layout and the location of important infrastructure such as a school and local facilities.

Cllr Guest added: ‘Havant Borough Council is committed to planning for sustainable development that nurtures a sense of community and identity.

‘I urge all interested parties to take part and have their say.’

The workshops will take place in Emsworth on March 2 and 30.

Spaces are limited for the workshops, and the deadline to register interest is Thursday, February 23.
