The Rail Maritime and Transport union has called for its members to take industrial action over a long running dispute surrounding the future of train guards.

The 48 hour strike has been called to take place on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th October.

The union want a guarantee that all trains will be staffed by guards.

RMT General Secretary, Mick Cash, said SWR had not '˜come close' to making an offer to resolve the dispute.

SWR have previously stated that trains could still operate in '˜exceptional circumstances' even if no guard was available.

SWR said: '˜We are extremely disappointed that yet again the RMT has decided to disrupt the lives of customers and employees rather than participate in constructive talks.'
