ROLLS Royce Plc has announced it is planning to cut 2,600 engineering jobs over the next 18 months.

The locations of the job cuts have not been disclosed.

But it is likely the UK will be heavily affected as nearly half of the company’s global workforce of 55,000 is based in the country.

Chief executive John Rishton warned that further action may be needed as the company steps up its drive to improve operational efficiency.

He said: ‘The measures announced will not be the last, however they will contribute towards Rolls-Royce becoming a stronger and more profitable company.’

Rolls Royce Motor Car in Chichester has said it is not affected by the move as it is a completely separate company.

Rolls Royce Marine has a centre in North Harbour, Portsmouth.
