The salon, called Lavish, at 7b Bemisters Lane, held its official opening on Saturday, October 8. The occasion was marked with a visit from mayor of Gosport Lynn Hook.

Business owner Phillip Donellan, 32, from Gosport, has spent months coverting the shop, which used to be New Antiques Store, into a unique salon – and said he was proud to see so many people come along to the opening.

He said: ‘It was a really great day, it was so busy. It was brilliant as there was a really good turn out.

‘I was really happy to see friends, potential clients and the lady who originally trained me – Rosemary Lee.’

Phillip trained at Rosemary’s salon, in San Diego Road, Gosport, before spending 12 years working in London and Bournemouth.

He said he was delighted to finally set up business on his own. ‘Hairdressing is my passion,’ he said.

‘It’s nice to do finally be able to work for myself.’

Phillip has hired a junior stylist – Poppy Lee, 18 – and he is still on the look out for a stylist.

Phillip said: ‘Poppy is really good, it’s great she’s working here.

‘The first week was really busy and it is still busy now we are into our second week.

‘Bemisters Lane is lovely, it’s like its own little community. We are getting on really well with the girls from the nail bar next door too.’
