Shop and maisonettesare popular at auction

A SOUTHSEA shop with two four-bedroom maisonettes went under the auctioneer's hammer for £306,000.

In a bidding war, the leasehold property at 58-60 Elm Grove went for £96,000 above the guide price.

The building, which has a Polish supermarket on the ground floor, was among 138 lots being sold by regional land and property auctioneers Clive Emson across southern England.

The double-fronted supermarket is on a commercial lease of £15,000 per annum and is unaffected by the sale of the building.

Rob Marchant, auctioneer, said: ‘There was a fierce bidding war for this property, with the gavel coming down on a bid which was £96,000 above estimate.’

A parcel of potential development land at Warsash went under the hammer for £73,000 over guide price.

The quarter-acre plot adjacent to 98 Greenway Lane sold for £123,000 in another bidding war.

Mr Marchant said: ‘There was fierce bidding in the room for this plot of land, which is situated between a row of houses and a nursery with glass houses.

‘There is scope for redevelopment, subject to planning consents, and this may well have fired up the bidding.’
