RETAILERS deserve recognition – and that’s why we are supporting the Retail and Leisure awards.
That’s what the manager of Whiteley Shopping Centre has said about the new awards run by The News.
This is a chance for us to recognise the work the guys are doingNeil Carter, Whiteley Shopping Centre
The awards give local shops an opportunity to be recognised for their hard work.
There are 12 categories including Fashion Retailer of the Year, Leisure Venue of the Year and Independent Specialist Retailer of the Year.
Neil Carter said: ‘We are fully behind it.
‘It’s a great way to celebrate the success of our retailers here at Whiteley.
‘We have been approached in the past for business awards.
‘But retailers are different. It’s a different sector and a different way of operating a business.
‘It’s a great way for us to get our tenants involved.’
There are also some awards for staff including Employee of the Year, Apprentice or Trainee of the Year and Manager of the Year.
There is also a Customer Service award.
And Mr Carter said it’s important that retailers get the recognition they deserve.
‘It’s a really tough job. There are a lot of long hours now because we have to be open for longer to be convenient for our customers.
‘They have to work even harder to close a sale and to do that they have got to give good service.
‘We are doing really well here. This is a chance for us to recognise the work the guys are doing.’
The awards are also being supported by Gunwharf Quays, Cascades Shopping Centre and Fareham Shopping Centre.
