Loyal customers of The Sunshine Inn, based in Farlington, are currently organising a charity football match.

The fund-raising game is being held in aid of The Rowans Hospice on Saturday, March 3rd.

The football match and fun day will see fundraisers competing in a day of sport before retiring to the pub for darts, pool, a raffle and refreshments.

The top prize to be won at the raffle is a signed Pompey FC shirt.

The framed shirt was purchased by a customer in 2008, just after the team won the FA Cup.

The customer kindly donated the shirt to the cause.

Kath Prioetti has been landlady at the Enterprise-owned pub for eight years.

She said: ‘One of our local punters, who we lovingly call ‘Cloud’, approached me a while back and said he’d love to raise money for The Rowans.

‘A big bunch of our regulars will be joining in but they’re also encouraging other people to take part.

‘If you’re interested, you can call the pub and speak to me or pop in on a Friday and ask for ‘Cloud’.’

Last year, the same group ran a charity day to raise money for The Rowans.

Kath said: ‘It’s a lovely day for everybody involved and everyone’s spirits are high.

‘I then put on sausage and chips for the players when they returned. They’re usually knackered!’

The raffle will be held at the pub after the game.

Kath explained: ‘We’ve had lots of exciting presents donated from some very generous people.

‘My boss is donating a couple of bottles of wine and we’re sure we’ll have some more donations.

She added: ‘I’m always up for hosting charitable events.

‘We try and do as much as we possibly can to give something back to the community.

‘It’s wonderful knowing this group of committed people feel the same way!’

The pub are hoping to host more charity events in 2018 and may be able to do so in the grounds of their new garden.

Kath said: ‘Enterprise are looking to refurb the pub garden, which we’re all very excited about.’
