Land Rover BAR’s super facility at the Camber is up for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) South 2016 award.

It has been short listed along with 63 other buildings in the region and 11 others in Hampshire; including the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, at the University of Portsmouth, Boathouse 4, at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Winchester Cathedral Learning Centre.

BAR’s nomination comes despite concerns from the Old Portsmouth community about the visual impact of the building and its affect on parking.

The winner will be announced at an awards evening and reception at Ascot Racecourse on April 28.

The regional winner will then have the opportunity to be considered for a national award of architectural excellence.

Jenny Peterson, of RIBA, said: ‘It is the beginning of a long process which will award the best building of the year.’
